The Hodg-man cometh

john_hodgmanCertainly I can’t be the only one who was shocked to see my new favorite minor television personality, John Hodgman, in last night’s Battlestar Galactica episode, “No Exit.” Apparently the news broke several months ago, but somehow it slipped past both my BSG and Hodgman radar. It was even more shocking to me because I was Tivo-ing the episode until I could fully savor it after the kids went to bed, and happened to turn on the TV to put on The Upside Down Show for my son, only to hear Hodgman’s voice (because the Tivo had tuned the TV to SciFi Channel to record it). My first thought was, “Why is The Daily Show being recorded on Friday night? My second thought was, “I don’t record The Daily Show down here…wait, that’s Battlestar Galactica…” And my third thought was, “Holy shit, my Tivo tried to record both shows at once and two universes were merged!”

Granted, it shouldn’t really be that strange to someone aware of what a fan of the show Hodgman is that he somehow ended up in a guest spot, but I can’t tell you how much it threw me off. The problem I’m having is that I couldn’t stay in the episode because I kept thinking, “That’s John Hodgman. That’s John Hodgman. That’s John Hodgman.”

I love John Hodgman. And I love Battlestar Galactica. But I also love Dr. Pepper and Sam Adams beer, and I would never mix the two.

  1. Very fun to see Mr. Hodgman in the operating room. I follow him on Twitter and he mentioned it on Friday, but I thought he was kidding. Great episode! And regarding Dr. Pepper and Sam Adams – I recommend a Dr. P with a Adams chaser. Mmmmmm.

    • Don’t get me wrong, I thought it was fun seeing him, too, I just wish it hadn’t taken me out of the story. I’m not sure if people who aren’t big fans even noticed much, although with all those Mac ads he’s in, they were probably still thinking, “That’s the PC guy. That’s the PC guy. That’s the PC guy…”
