BSG is back!

In case you missed it, Battlestar Galactica is back with a bang in a new web series entitled “Blood & Chrome.” And, don’t worry… unlike Caprica, this series lives up to the BSG name, and the special effects are as slick as ever. The story of William Adama’s first mission after leaving the academy rocks. You can watch it HERE.

The good news is, Disney bought Lucasfilm. The bad news is, Disney bought Lucasfilm.

After wavering for years on whether or not there would be sequel films for the Star Wars series, it’s finally out of George Lucas’ hands. I love that Disney didn’t even wait for a separate announcement from the buyout news to say there’ll be a new Star Wars film in 2015, since that’s what fans really want, and the universe is too good to be left behind. On the other hand, Disney, one of my least favorite multinational conglomerates, has now purchased another one of my favorite media giants (the others being Pixar and Marvel). So what’s a fan to do? I guess hope for the best. Disney’s purchase of Marvel certainly didn’t do anything to hurt the Avengers movie, and I’d be happy to see Star Wars get the same treatment.

So I dusted off an old screenplay…

…and entered it into a TV writing contest in the “movie of the week” category. Now it’s in the semi-finals! If it does even better, I may have to start trying to take it back out into the world again.

Awesome Picture

Is it lame that this is the first thing I’ve posted in so long, and the only reason is because I love this picture so much and I need a URL to get it on Pinterest? Maybe, but I don’t care.

I’d love to give credit to whomever created this, but all I know is I got it from George Takei’s Facebook gallery.

I don’t know about you, but to me it looks like it was The Most Interesting Man in the World…

REVIEW: Circle of Enemies by Harry Connolly

•October 18, 2011 • 2 Comments

If Circle of Enemies were made into a film and marketed by the wrong people, the tagline would definitely read: “This time it’s personal.” Still, in a nutshell, that’s what makes the third Twenty Palaces novel stand out from the other two. Rather than protagonist Ray Lilly running around meeting new people in a new place, he’s back to his old haunts trying to figure out why one of his old group of friends is accusing him of killing them all. This one has all the things that made the first two books great, with an extra helping of background on both Ray and the Twenty Palaces Society that a lot of readers (including me) have been waiting for.

Connolly announced that this is going to be the last in the series (for now), but I certainly hope he returns to these characters at some point in the future so we can enjoy more of this fantastic universe.

Second Place Ain’t Bad…

Just found out my Big Bang Theory spec, “The Convention Conundrum,” came in second place in the TVWriter.com Spec Scriptacular. Congrats to Garron Ma for his first place/grand prize win and to the other winners as well!

The Downs and Ups of Writing Contests

•September 18, 2011 • Leave a Comment

So I’ve been a little down on my writing the past week or so, since finding out that my TV pilot script, The Nemesis, didn’t make the semi-finals of the TVWriter.com contest, after it won the Golden Age of TV contest and placed in the top 10 percent at Austin. But I just found out that my spec script for The Big Bang Theory, which didn’t make the cut in Scriptapalooza or Austin, is in the semis at TVWriter.com for the spec category. It just goes to show that you need to get your work out there and have faith in your writing. Someone’s bound to like it.

Circle of Enemies is Out!

Just realized I neglected to post this on my blog when I FB and Tweeted it: My friend Harry Connolly’s third book in his Twenty Palaces series came out on Tuesday. It’s called Circle of Enemies, and it’s as good, of not better, than the first two (if you’ve read those, you know that means it’s great). Apparently Barnes and Noble had some problem getting it in stock in time, so rush to your favorite indie bookstore or online bookseller and get it…now!

Jumping on the Bandwagon

Yeah, I know I’m way late to the party, but now I’m all in. After hearing repeatedly how I need to check out Game of Thrones (the book and the show), I added it to my “to do” list for the future. But my friend decided to send me the set of the first four books, and I decided to read a few pages to see what the fuss was about. Now it’s become one of those books that I can’t wait to get back to and spend time I really don’t have reading. I’m going to wait until I finish the book before watching the show, but I’m already getting impatient.
